Information Technology Development is a process that aims at building and development of telecommunication infrastructure linking geographically distributed information resources, where the key elements are controlling and analytical information systems created on the basis of computer technology and computer networks, information technology and telecommunications.

In the framework of IT development Institute staff are successfully working on contemporary issues in modern health care, among these - on organization and management of medical statistics compilation and processing. The following tasks are solved here:

• development, implementation and support of programs on formation of annual reports of medical institutions and territories of the Russian Federation, on conducting consolidated annual reports, and on generation of various statistical collections on incidence, demographic situation and current status of health system;
• management of collection of territories' annual reports and production of final compilations;
• contacts with the regional health authorities;
• Implementation of operational processing and delivery of information to the health care authorities of the Russian Federation.

In addition to statistical information management, experts from the institute develop scientific and methodological support for IT development for compulsory health insurance (CHI) systems and additional drug supply, for keeping registers of decreed contingents of patients (disabled children, patients with AIDS, patients with cancer, etc.), for health funding base, health insurance companies and health care institutions. In addition, the institute implements software tests for software products used in health care.

Other area of work is interaction with medical information and analytical centers and IT development services of territorial health governing bodies. Different tasks are implemented such as definition of complex activities for the development of regional IT systems in health, main activities and services; scientific and methodological materials are being developed.

Standardization in the field of IT development in health - another area of ​​activity of the Institute - is organization of work for the Technical Committee for Standardization number 468 " IT development in health ", development of national standards in the field of information technology in health care and creation of a unified classifier system.
